Bann Thai Restaurant
6461 Brockton Avenue
Riverside, CA
I just popped in for a quickie here at Bann Thai. They had a nice stand alone building with parking in the rear. The interior had a vaulted ceiling with brick inlay. Playing on the overhead stereo was upbeat spanish flamenco style music which fit the decor nicely. I decided to switch it up a bit and got dumplings and soup. The dumplings were good, they had a nice kick to them. They should have had a "CAUTION the soup is SCOLDING HOT" engraved into the bowl, it almost ruined the meal for me. The service was good, the food came out a little slow. They had an "enter as strangers, leave as friends" sign, a good motto of the Thai people. The mango sticky rice desert was to die for, perfectly ripe mangos cut and perfectly sweet rice.

Occasionally I run into a middle of the road Thai restaurant, this was just the place. The soup that came out with the lunch meal was not my favorite, it was a tasteless broth with undercooked vegetables. Not a great yellow curry either, it was decent, definitely not amazing. The onions in the Curry were undercooked. They brought out a fortune cookie, how Chinese of them. To top this mediocre restaurant off they don't accept Amex.

What a gem this place turned out to be. I think I have a new Thai food friend while I travel for work, it's a guy I work with and the first thing he said when I saw him was "what Thai place are we trying?". What we have been trying is looking up the highest rated Thai Restaurant on Yelp and going there, its working out really good so far. The Thai iced tea was like desert. The salad was was tasty, it had that amazing peanut dressing the sushi places bring out. My work associate didn't like his chicken onion soup. Best Thai Cuisine does something I REALLY liked, they brought out Pad Thai on the side! The Pad Thai was delicious and was made with hand cut noodles. The Yellow Curry was really sweet and delicious too, the food was surprisingly good here. Authentic music playing and a nice server helped this place move to the top of the California charts.

Something that never gets old is a nice warm welcome from a nice Thai restaurant waitress, this place did not disappoint. When I was there, the restaurant seemed big, but it could have been because there were not many people. It was lunch at the time, but I thought there should have been more people. They had a handwritten menu of fresh fish on bright orange paper, it was a cool touch. There was soothing Thai music playing, another nice touch. The Panang was DELICIOUS! Two great Panang experiences in a row, I know all the curries are delicious, but wow, Panang is a close second to Yellow.

Siam Thai Sushi Restaurant Fort Myers, FL
Siam Thai Sushi Restaurant

Thai/Sushi combo place, good choice for friends that may or may not like Thai, which was the position I was in. The server was very nice, I think he was the first Thai gay guy I have ever met. The server greeted a regular who he obviously new, so that's a good sign of a friendly hometown restaurant. The sushi bar guy even went up front to greet some regulars, that's unheard of, Siam Thai is shaping up to get a 10 on the "people" category. The decor was relaxing and along with the music it created a soothing dinner experience. They had a second room with a section of those tables where you sit on the floor. The steamed dumplings were great and the sexy girl sushi roll was great, I know, I know, don't lynch me for ordering sushi at a Thai place! I was very close to ordering the Panang Curry, and after I tasted my friends Panang and my Massaman I wish I would have. The Panang is the dish to order at this place, it was amazing. I highly recommend Siam Thai in Ft Myers.
Thai Iced Tea $1.50 (way underpriced compared to other places)
Steamed Dumplings $4.95 (cheap!)
Chicken Massaman Curry $10.95 (disproportionately expensive compared to the appetizer and drink)
Sexy Girl Sushi Roll $8.95 (yes I did it and it was delicious)
