Surin of Thailand Birmingham, AL

Surin of Thailand
64 Church St
Birmingham, AL

I called for directions and the guy who answered was really nice. If your getting there at night look for a dim yellow glow. It was a bit too expensive for how the decor was. The location of the restaurant (downtown) may be the reason for the high prices. The majority of their menu was sushi, which I found strange because of the sign on their window said "Authentic Thai Food". Pictures on the menu is a tacky move, but owners if you ever read this, have a graphic designer redo your menus. The food was amazing!  I thoroughly enjoyed the creamy taste of the curry sauce. The way they served it was impressive, perfect amount of sauce to rice ratio. The entrée was served on a really large plate with shallow depth, perfect. I overheard a customer in the table next to me say his wine was bad, not a good sign on the alcohol front. It's not often that I get to go back to a restaurant outside of the Phoenix valley, but I figured since I had a coworker coming to meet me, I would choose the best Thai food I know in Birmingham, I wouldn't say best overall experience in Birmingham, but the food is really great. The second visit was similar to my first.

Tong's Thai Restaurant Springfield, MO

Tong's Thai Restaurant
3454 S Campbell Ave
Springfield, MO

This place was recommended to me from someone I was working with, he looked like he knows his Thai restaurants, so I trusted him and went to see for myself. Mr Tong himself seated me. It felt like I was talking to a celebrity because of the front of the menu having his picture in a prominent area. Nice decor, comfortable, when you step into a place like this, you plan on spending a couple dollars more per plate.
The Chicken Satay was great, delicious marinade on the chicken and amazing peanut sauce.
The yellow curry sauce was really amazing, but the chicken didn't have much flavor and was a little dry. They didn't include enough sauce for the amount of vegetables and chicken provided.

Chicken Yellow Curry $10.95

Thai Peppers Springfield, MO

Thai Peppers
1411 E Sunshine St
Springfield, MO

Thai Peppers has a semi-friendly staff, not super helpful or nice. They are located in a nice stand alone building in Springfield. The decor was comfortable and the music was authentic Thai, very welcoming. The restaurant looked and felt very family owned, a plus one in my book.  The Satay came out with a heating flame to keep them warm, probably unnecessary, but still a nice touch, they were delicious. The meat was perfectly lean and the sauces were delectable, the appetizer did it's job, it got me excited for the main course. The pineapple and squash was a little out of the norm for a Yellow Curry dish, but worked well. Great food, I can't say enough about the food, after my last experience with Thai food in Springfield a month ago, I was a little nervous. Everyone around me seemed to really enjoy their meals, I was surprised that the Yelp score was only 3 1/2 stars. They special made the spring rolls for a table of regulars next to me. She packaged up my to go order, it's the small things that help me decide a Thai Food Restaurant's score. My trip to Thai Peppers ended up being a near perfect Thai experience.

Thai Dressing Fine Thai Dining Chandler, AZ

Thai Dressing Fine Thai Dining Chandler, AZ
2820 S Alma School Rd
Chandler, AZ

This was somewhat of a special occasion for me, I was dining with my childhood friend Thomas. Thomas has a one of a kind pallet, he is a certified Sommelier and knows more about wine than anyone I know. He also works at the only 5 star 5 diamond restaurant in town, Kai, so if anyone knows how a fine food establishment should be run, its him. Well Thai Dressing has that phrase in their name, so it is time to put that claim to the test. First thing Thomas noticed was the Quality dish ware, although they did forget the knife. The vibe was decent, I would say it lives up to the name, fine dining. The Chicken Satay was good, the peanut sauce looked scary, but was delicious. The Pad Thai came out a little too "slimy" for my taste, once it sat for a while, and even the next day, it got better. The Chicken Panang Curry was amazing, it partially made up for the Pad Thai. Someone peaked in the door at 8:29 and asked if they were still open, but the server/possible owner guy said "no, we are closing" odd choice for a small business. A couple quick observations,
1. If you claim fine dining the server should box up the meal to go if the patron requests the rest of the meal to go.
2. Be completely on point as far as service, our server wasn't on top of it like he should have been.

Thai Xpress Springfield, MO

Thai  Xpress
948 S Glenstone Ave
Springfield, MO

I went with a colleague that had no preference on Thai food, he ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken. Springfield is a mid size city and I didn't expect a lot from the Thai scene, maybe it is too early to call it a "scene". The people working there were semi friendly, a little impartial to us being there. We were very confused when we first walked in, we even sat there for a while before we realized you are supposed to order up front. No guidance where there Gould have been some. We eventually noticed the whiteboard with all the prices, cheap food. I actually felt like I was in a third world country for a second, I can't pinpoint what exactly made me feel that way, maybe everything. They offered free chicken rice soup with the purchase of a meal. I ordered the Massaman Curry, Thai salad with Ginger Dressing, and an egg roll. The salad had too much of an overwhelming ginger taste, it wasn't sweet enough. The egg roll was a standard Chinese food egg roll, it was decent. The curry was OK, not great, it came with brown rice, a little strange not to have the option. I asked my colleague about his entrée and he said it was just OK, which is a nice way of saying it kind of sucked. There should be a rule that you can't call your restaurant if 51% or more of the menu is Chinese food, that describes this place well. I was surprised to see 4 stars on Yelp, but after noticing the folks that go to this place, I can imagine they are looking forward to good Chinese food, interesting.
